The tight junction protein 3 (Claudin3/CLDN3) belongs to the transmembrane tight junction protein family. TJ proteins are essential for the formation of intramembrane-based cell-cell adhesion complexes, which maintain cell polarity. Fortunately, a few members of the Claudin family—such as CLDN4, CLDN6, CLDN9, and CLDN18.2—have been uncovered to have a substantial influence on tumour aetiology, diagnosis, and treatment.
