ImmuSmol’s newly launched L-Serine ELISA Kit
L-serine is one of the non-essential amino acids that plays a central role in cellular proliferation. Hence for quantification of L-serine, Biotechno Labs in collaboration with ImmuSmol is all set to supply ImmuSmol’s newly launched L-Serine ELISA Kit in India.
ImmuSmol stands for “immunoglobulins [antibodies] against small molecules”. While traditional antibodies only recognize large molecules such as proteins, ImmuSmol designs and develops antibodies capable of targeting low molecular weight entities (<900 Da). Amino acids, lipids, saccharids, toxins, drugs virtually any small molecule can thus be addressed with high affinity and specificity. Fully compatible with existing antibody-based technologies, small molecule antibodies are opening a whole new set of possibilities in research, diagnostics and therapy.
L-Serine (L-Ser) is a non-essential amino acid which becomes conditionally essential - in certain circumstances - particularly when it cannot be synthesized in a sufficient amount to meet the cellular demands. L-Ser may be derived from different sources including dietary intake, the glycolytic intermediate 3-phosphoglycerate, glycine as well as protein and phospholipid degradation. It’s worth noting that enzymes involved in L-Ser biosynthesis are upregulated in highly proliferating cells, including cancer cells, to limit L-Ser over-consumption. Besides its essential role in cell proliferation, L-Ser is important for brain development and functions which are especially sustained by i) altered L-Ser levels in psychiatric disorders and ii) occurrence of severe neurological abnormalities in patients with defects in L-Ser biosynthesis
