The Nitrofurans are a particular group of veterinary antibiotics that used to be much used for poultry, swine and cattle, fish, shrimp and bee farms. These antibiotics were used as feed additives for growth promotion and the prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of bacterial and protozoan infections. The use of nitrofurans in the farm industry has been banned in many countries around the world. In some countries, Nitrofurans have been banned in animal foods and residue detection of Nitrofurans in aquatic products has been strictly implemented because Nitrofurans and their metabolites are carcinogenic and teratogenic to humans. Therefore, it is mandate to identify even its minute concentration 1mg/kg-1in the food.
