| Description | Harris’ Hematoxylin is a basophilic dye that produces a deep, bluish-purple stain, commonly used in both progressive and regressive staining-based cytologic and histologic assays. The mechanism involves metal ion chelation with targeted binding to acidic compounds in the cells, mainly DNA and RNA, thereby resulting in brightly stained nuclei. This histological grade reagent is suitable for visualization of nuclei in various sample formats, such as cells, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections, and cryosections. Hematoxylin stain is often used in conjunction with Eosin dye for high contrast between nuclear and cytoplasmic staining in histological evaluations using light microscopy.
