Allergic diseases: HDM-induced Asthma
Asthma is caused by various allergens like dust mites, pet dander, pollen, or mold, and is characterized by airflow obstruction and bronchospasm. House dust mite (HDM) is the most significant indoor allergen among all allergens. There are two main mite species, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and Dermatophagoides farinae which are majorly responsible for asthma in human allergy patients. HDM is an immunologically complex allergen which can stimulate both the innate and adaptive immune responses. HDM-Induced Allergic Asthma more closely resembles the heterogenous nature of human allergic asthma than the traditional Ovalbumin-induced Asthma model. For the development of novel therapeutics for asthma there is a need of animal model which can reproduce the human asthma aspects including, reversible airway obstruction, airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), early and late asthmatic responses, airway remodeling, and eosinophilia, so Biotechno Labs with Chondrex, Inc. provides HDM extracts as clinically relevant allergens to induce mouse asthma models that mimic how asthmatic patients are sensitized with aeroallergens. Further it also provides anti-HDM antibody ELISA kits to evaluate these mouse models.
