Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) is the process where species generated at electrodes undergo electron-transfer reactions to form excited states that emit light. ECL is considered the detection method of choice due to its high sensitivity, excellent signal-to-noise ratio, and wide dynamic range. Additionally, ECL is also useful in quantifying a wide variety of biological materials such as cell RNA, DNA, and other analytes. The chemiluminescent detection of target proteins in Western blots using ECL Super Bright provides high sensitivity and an extremely low femtogram detection range.
